After Nai graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he continued to learn and practiced under many eastern and western masters of great skills and techniques. Of significance, was his mentorship under the late Professor Chao Shao-An, a renowned Lingnan-style master based in Hong Kong. Swee Leng developed his individual unique style over the years. He is most widely known for his Chinese ink paintings with especially sturdy intriguing strokes and tranquil beautiful compositions. Swee Leng has held many solo and group Exhibitions in Singapore and overseas, and has been recognised in the Asia art realm as a master in Chinese ink paintings of bamboo, birds and flowers. The Singapore National Gallery has collected several artworks by Mr Nai.
